Luis Villa De Leon, Illegal Reentry, PA 2024

READING, PA – A grim chapter in federal immigration enforcement unfolded as Luis Villa De Leon, a resident of Reading, Pennsylvania, was hit with charges of illegal reentry after deportation. United States Attorney Louis D. Lappen announced the charges, which stem from an alleged return to the United States by Villa-De Leon on or about December 14, 2016.

The accused, a citizen of the Dominican Republic, had previously been deported from the U.S. on at least three separate occasions: October 10, 1999, July 26, 2000, and September 27, 2006. The latest charge is a serious one with significant consequences if convicted.

Should Villa-De Leon be found guilty, he faces a maximum sentence of twenty years in federal prison. This case marks another blow to the Immigration and Customs Enforcement’s (ICE) efforts to enforce immigration laws and deter illegal reentry.

The investigation into this offense was spearheaded by ICE’s Enforcement and Removal Operations (ERO). Assistant United States Attorney Nancy Rue is now tasked with prosecuting the matter in federal court.

It is important to note that an Indictment, Information or Criminal Complaint is merely an accusation. Villa-De Leon is presumed innocent until proven guilty according to the rule of law.

This case serves as a stark reminder of the rigorous enforcement measures being taken by federal authorities in Pennsylvania and across the nation to uphold immigration laws.
