Felon in Possession of a Firearm Lands Harrisburg Man Behind Bars

HARRISBURG – A notorious felon is facing life in prison after being convicted of possessing firearms and ammunition as an armed career criminal. Reginald Hopkins, 49, of Harrisburg, Pennsylvania, was found guilty on January 8, 2026, of being a convicted felon in possession of a firearm and ammunition.

The case unfolded when law enforcement executed a search warrant at Hopkins’ apartment on February 19, 2021. During the search, authorities seized three firearms: an Astra Constable 9mm handgun, a Hi-Point CF380 .380 handgun, and a S&W M&P 9 Shield 9mm handgun. Several magazines and 9mm and .380 ammunition were also seized.

One of the magazines was a high-capacity drum magazine loaded with 39 rounds of 9mm ammunition. The firearms were discovered in plain sight next to Hopkins’ bed and near a chair in the living area.

The jury found that four of Hopkins’ prior drug-trafficking convictions were committed on separate occasions, which exposes him to enhanced penalties under the Armed Career Criminal Act. This includes a 15-year mandatory minimum sentence of imprisonment.

Assistant U.S. Attorney Michael Scalera and Deputy Criminal Chief Michael Consiglio prosecuted the case, which was investigated by the Harrisburg Police Bureau’s Street Crimes Unit and the Community Policing Unit, along with the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives.

The maximum penalty for the felon in possession of a firearm and ammunition offense is up to life imprisonment, a term of five years of supervised release following imprisonment, and a $250,000 fine. A sentence will be imposed by the judge after consideration of the applicable federal sentencing statutes and the Federal Sentencing Guidelines.

The verdict in this case serves as a stark reminder of the consequences of possessing firearms as a convicted felon. Reginald Hopkins will face a judge’s decision in the coming weeks, awaiting his fate.
