Ex-Con Caught with Pistol
New Orleans, LA – In a shocking turn of events, 34-year-old Regis Grimes, a convicted felon, was caught red-handed with a pistol in his waistband. The New Orleans Police Department received a concerned citizen’s call about Grimes distributing narcotics on the steps of Triumph Church in the 3400 block of Loyola Avenue, New Orleans.
When officers approached Grimes, they found the pistol concealed in his waistband. Grimes, a convicted felon, is prohibited from possessing a firearm. The arrest took place on May 4, 2022.
Grimes pleaded guilty to a one-count indictment charging him with Possession of a Firearm by a Convicted Felon in violation of Title 18, United States Code, Sections 922(g)(1) and 924(a)(2). U.S. Attorney Duane A. Evans announced the sentencing.
Regis Grimes was sentenced to 57 months of imprisonment by United States District Court Judge Eldon E. Fallon. Following his imprisonment, Grimes will be placed on supervised release for 3 years. The court did not impose a fine, but imposed a mandatory special assessment fee of $100.00.
This case is part of Project Safe Neighborhoods (PSN), a program aimed at reducing violent crime and gun violence. The program brings together law enforcement and the community to make neighborhoods safer.
The case was investigated by the federal Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms, and Explosives and the New Orleans Police Department. Assistant United States Attorney Brittany Reed of the Public Integrity Unit is prosecuting the case.
