Registered Sex Offender Jailed for 20 Years

A 41-year-old registered sex offender, Steve Rosado, has been jailed for 20 years after attempting to entice two minor girls to engage in illegal sexual activity and attempting to receive child pornography.

Rosado, who was arrested in December 2020 and pleaded guilty in November 2021, was sentenced by the Honorable Jed S. Rakoff to 20 years in prison for his crimes.

According to court filings, Rosado attempted to engage in repeated sexual activity with the 12-year-old and 9-year-old girls, even after having been twice before convicted of sex offenses and required to register as a sex offender.

The investigation revealed that Rosado had been communicating online with several other individuals who purported to be minors, some as young as 13 years old, in an effort to receive child pornography and persuade the young victims to move to New York to live with him.

Rosado’s electronic devices also revealed that he was engaged in an ongoing sexual relationship with a 16-year-old female victim at the time of his arrest.

U.S. Attorney Damian Williams stated that Rosado’s crimes can have devastating and lasting effects on minor victims, and that he thanks the FBI and NYPD for their work in investigating and arresting Rosado before he could harm any others.

Rosado was previously convicted of possessing a sexual performance by a child in 2004 and four counts of rape in the second degree in 2005, for which he was required to register as a sex offender.
