BUFFALO, N.Y. – In a shocking turn of events, 24-year-old Rejjie Ni, a resident of Shanghai, China, was sentenced to time served for possession of a machine gun.
According to sources, Ni was convicted of possessing a machine gun after a search warrant was executed at his apartment in Amherst, N.Y. on March 18, 2019.
During the search, officers recovered 33 rifles, two shotguns, and numerous rounds of ammunition, including armor piercing bullets.
One of the rifles recovered was a semi-automatic rifle found under Ni’s bed. Further investigation and expert analysis revealed that the defendant had converted the semi-automatic rifle into a fully automatic machine gun.
The sentencing is the result of an investigation by the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms, and Explosives, the Amherst Police Department, and Homeland Security Investigations.
Assistant U.S. Attorney Jeremiah E. Lenihan handled the case, which resulted in Ni being sentenced to time served (11 months) by U.S. District Judge Lawrence J. Vilardo.
Ni’s sentence is a stark reminder of the severity of possessing a machine gun in the United States.
