Justin Brooks, 28, from Rensselaer, New York, has been handed a severe blow to his freedom after being sentenced today for conspiring to distribute oxycodone in Albany County.
The gritty streets of Albany witnessed the downfall of Brooks as United States Attorney Richard S. Hartunian and DEA Special Agent in Charge James J. Hunt announced the sentencing.
Senior United States District Judge Thomas J. McAvoy didn’t mince words, imposing a 3-year probation term and a 6-month home detention order on Brooks. To add insult to injury, a $1,000 fine was imposed along with an order for him to forfeit $3,326 in drug proceeds.
Brooks’ December 13, 2016 guilty plea revealed his role in the sinister scheme: obtaining oxycodone tablets from a co-conspirator for resale within Albany County’s borders. His downfall was set in motion by the DEA and prosecuted by Assistant U.S. Attorney Jeffrey C. Coffman.
