Child Pornography Ring Bust in Corpus Christi
Reynaldo Ramirez, a 38-year-old Corpus Christi man, has been convicted of distributing child pornography, according to a recent plea deal in federal court.
The Corpus Christi Police Department launched an investigation into Ramirez after a detective downloaded child pornography files from an IP address linked to the suspect’s home. Homeland Security Investigations (HSI) assisted in the investigation.
On December 24, 2015, authorities executed a search warrant at Ramirez’s residence and seized several digital devices. They also found a Santa Claus costume, which Ramirez revealed he had worn for the past 15 years in the South Texas area.
Ramirez confessed to viewing child pornography for six years and admitted to downloading over 1,000 images, featuring children as young as toddlers and pre-teens. He also revealed that he had sexually assaulted a four-year-old child.
U.S. District Judge Nelva Gonzales Ramos accepted the guilty plea and set sentencing for August 10, 2016. Ramirez faces a minimum of five years to up to 20 years in federal prison and a possible $250,000 maximum fine.
Ramirez has been in custody since his arrest and will remain there pending his sentencing.
Assistant U.S. Attorney Hugo R. Martinez prosecuted the case as part of Project Safe Childhood, a nationwide initiative launched in May 2006 to combat child sexual exploitation and abuse.
