Local Man Pleads Guilty to Methamphetamine Distribution Charge
A Moundsville man has admitted to selling methamphetamine in the vicinity of the Golden Towers in Marshall County, West Virginia.
Rhett D. Gump, 24, pleaded guilty to one count of Distribution of Methamphetamine in Proximity to a Protected Location in a federal court hearing held January 5, 2017.
According to Acting United States Attorney Betsy Steinfeld Jividen, Gump faces up to 40 years of incarceration and a fine of up to $2,000,000 for his role in the methamphetamine distribution operation.
The actual sentence Gump receives will be determined by the seriousness of the offense and his prior criminal history, if any. The Federal Sentencing Guidelines will be used to calculate the final sentence.
Assistant U.S. Attorney Robert H. McWilliams, Jr. prosecuted the case on behalf of the government, with the Marshall County Drug and Violent Crimes Task Force, a HIDTA-funded initiative, leading the investigation.
U.S. Magistrate Judge James E. Seibert presided over the hearing.
While Gump’s exact sentence has yet to be determined, the serious nature of the charges and the potential penalties serve as a reminder of the severe consequences of engaging in illicit drug activity in West Virginia.
