Ricardo Ferreira, Unlawful Dealing in Firearms, Massachusetts 2023

BOSTON – In a scathing blow to the illegal arms trade, Brazilian national Ricardo Ferreira was sentenced yesterday to four years in federal prison for selling 11 firearms. The grim tally included a weapon with a large capacity magazine and another with an obliterated serial number, both of which were seized by law enforcement.

Ferreira, 28, from Boston, Massachusetts, was convicted on multiple counts of unlawful dealing in firearms, following a comprehensive investigation by the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms, and Explosives (ATF) and the United States Postal Inspection Service.

According to court documents, Ferreira’s illegal enterprise began when he imported several handguns from Brazil. His criminal activities escalated when he resold them on the black market, often without the required paperwork. The investigation revealed that Ferreira had sold the firearms to individuals who were not legally permitted to own them.

During the sentencing hearing, Assistant U.S. Attorney John R. Brown highlighted the gravity of Ferreira’s offense, emphasizing that his actions posed a significant threat to public safety. ‘The illegal sale and distribution of firearms endangers communities across our nation,’ said Brown.

The court also ordered Ferreira to pay a fine of $10,000 and comply with a lifetime ban on firearm possession. The sentence was handed down by U.S. District Judge Rya W. Zobel in the Eastern District of Massachusetts.

This case serves as a stark reminder of the relentless efforts by federal law enforcement agencies to combat gun trafficking. As Ferreira’s sentence takes effect, authorities continue their pursuit of those who exploit the illegal firearms trade for personal gain and pose a danger to innocent lives.’
