Boston – In a grim milestone against gun trafficking, Jahquel Pringle, 26, was sentenced today to 42 months in federal prison for transporting dozens of firearms from Alabama into Massachusetts. The U.S. District Court Chief Judge F. Dennis Saylor IV delivered the sentence, which also includes three years of supervised release.
Pringle, who pleaded guilty in February 2024, faced charges including conspiracy to illegally transport firearms, illegal transportation or receipt of firearms outside his state of residency, and possession of a firearm as a felon. He was indicted alongside Brandon Moore, Jarmori Brown, and Kobe Smith in July 2022.
The four conspired to obtain at least 24 firearms from Alabama, where Moore resided, before Pringle traveled to pick them up and transport them back to Boston by bus. At least seven of the weapons have been recovered on the streets of Boston and surrounding areas. Video evidence showed Pringle firing one of the weapons in Alabama.
In a series of convictions related to the conspiracy, Brown received 18 months in prison and three years of supervised release. Moore’s case was transferred to the Middle District of Alabama where he pleaded guilty. Smith awaits sentencing on June 12, 2024.
The investigation and prosecution were led by the Major Crimes Unit, with Acting United States Attorney Joshua S. Levy and James M. Ferguson, Special Agent in Charge of the ATF Boston Field Division, announcing the sentence. The case is part of Project Safe Neighborhoods (PSN), a program aimed at reducing gun violence and violent crime.
