MINNEAPOLIS, Minn. – A brazen carjacking in Minneapolis has left a community shaken, and now the perpetrator is facing serious charges.
Ricardo Rydell Walker, Jr., 21, pleaded guilty to carjacking and illegal possession of a firearm in U.S. District Court yesterday, announced U.S. Attorney Andrew M. Luger.
On June 30, 2022, Walker and others approached Victim A as they walked from their vehicle to their apartment building in Minneapolis. The group tripped Victim A, and Walker hit the victim on the left side of the head with a handgun.
The victim was able to escape, but Walker and his accomplices made off with a black 2021 Toyota Highlander. Six days later, on July 6, 2022, Walker was arrested in Maplewood, Minn., in a stolen car, while in possession of a Springfield Hellcat 9mm.
Walker’s guilty plea also admitted to aiding and abetting the carjackings of a black 2019 Volkswagen Atlas and a gray 2015 Mazda 3 on June 24, 2024, and a gray Nissan Rogue on the same date. In each case, Walker and his accomplices used the threat of violence and intimidated the victims with firearms.
Walker was arraigned today in U.S. District Court by Judge Katherine M. Menendez. Assistant U.S. Attorneys William C. Mattessich and Mary Riverso are prosecuting the case, which is the result of an investigation conducted by the St. Paul Police Department, the Minneapolis Police Department, the Hennepin County Sheriff’s Office, and the Ramsey County Sheriff’s Office, with assistance from the FBI.
