Gerard Eric Beasley, Gun Possession, Florida 2024

Tampa man Gerard Eric Beasley, 50, is headed to the slammer for four years and nine months for possessing a firearm as a convicted felon, a crime punishable under federal law.

Beasley was found guilty on March 12, 2024, after a bench trial, and U.S. District Judge Kathryn Kimball Mizelle handed down the sentence on March 23, 2024.

The evidence presented at trial revealed that Beasley was stopped by Tampa Police Department officers for driving without headlights on and a partially open trunk. A search of Beasley’s vehicle turned up marijuana, crack cocaine, and a Taurus G2C 9mm pistol loaded with one round of ammunition.

During an interview, Beasley admitted to possessing the firearm and narcotics. At the time of the offense, Beasley had multiple prior felony convictions, making him prohibited from possessing a firearm or ammunition under federal law.

This case was a collaborative effort between the Federal Bureau of Investigation, the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives, and the Tampa Police Department. Assistant United States Attorneys David W.A. Chee and Shauna Hale led the prosecution.

The case is part of Project Safe Neighborhoods (PSN), a program aimed at reducing violent crime and gun violence by bringing together law enforcement and the communities they serve. The initiative focuses on fostering trust, supporting community-based organizations, setting strategic enforcement priorities, and measuring results.

Beasley’s sentence is a stern reminder of the consequences of violating federal law. As a convicted felon, he was aware of his restrictions and chose to disregard them, putting himself and others at risk. This case serves as a warning to those who would similarly disregard the law.
