Curtis Davis, Capitol Assault, North Carolina 2021

WASHINGTON – A shocking incident from the January 6, 2021, Capitol breach has culminated in a guilty plea. Curtis Davis, a 45-year-old man from Snow Hill, North Carolina, has admitted to assaulting law enforcement officers during the violent riot at the U.S. Capitol.

Davis pleaded guilty to felony charges of assaulting, resisting, or impeding certain officers before U.S. District Judge Amit P. Mehta. The sentencing is scheduled for October 18, 2024.

Court documents detail Davis’s involvement on the day of the riot. At around 3:00 p.m., Davis entered the Capitol via the East Rotunda doors and moved through the crowd to confront law enforcement. He forcibly attacked an MPD officer and attempted to seize the officer’s baton.

Despite being expelled from the Rotunda, Davis returned later and engaged in further acts of violence. He punched officers and forcibly took a riot shield, using it against the line of rioters. The document also reveals Davis filmed himself with his cell phone, boasting about the injuries he caused to police officers.

The FBI arrested Davis on December 8, 2023. The investigation was conducted by the FBI’s Charlotte and Washington Field Offices, with valuable assistance from the U.S. Capitol Police and the Metropolitan Police Department.

Since January 6, 2021, over 1,450 individuals have faced charges for crimes related to the Capitol breach, including more than 500 individuals charged with assaulting or impeding law enforcement.
