Devon Davis, 27, of St. Thomas, USVI, copped to conspiracy in the violent 2013 armed robbery of Gems and Gold Corner jewelry store, admitting his role as getaway driver during a federal court hearing today. The plea marks the final chapter in a five-year federal dragnet that swept up six co-conspirators, all now locked up awaiting sentencing.
Davis pleaded guilty to one count of conspiracy to commit Hobbs Act robbery, a federal charge used to prosecute crimes affecting interstate commerce through robbery or extortion. The indictment, returned November 16, 2017, by a federal grand jury, traces back to the smash-and-grab on September 16, 2013, when armed men stormed the store, flashed a handgun, and terrorized the owner before fleeing with a haul of precious gems and gold.
Court records confirm Davis was not inside the store during the robbery — his job was outside. He waited behind the wheel, engine running, ready to bolt. The moment the crew burst out, merchandise in hand, Davis sped off, sealing his fate as a key player in the conspiracy. That split-second coordination didn’t save him — it condemned him.
Davis now stares down a maximum of 20 years in federal prison. Judge Curtis V. Gomez ordered him remanded into the custody of the U.S. Marshals Service immediately, refusing bond. His sentencing is set for July 5, 2018. No excuses. No delays.
He’s the last domino to fall. The others — Ron Delano Kuntz, 42, Keon Wilson, 22, Shawn McIntosh, 24, Shaquille Correa, 22, Jarmaine Ayala, 36, and Wahilli James, 21 — have all been convicted. Each remains in federal custody, their own sentencing hearings scheduled for May 2018. None made it out clean.
The case was built by the Federal Bureau of Investigation and the Virgin Islands Police Department, a joint effort that spanned years of surveillance, witness interviews, and evidence tracking. Prosecution was led by Assistant United States Attorneys Anna A. V. Vlasova and Kim L. Chisholm, who made no deals for the final defendant. Justice, in this case, wasn’t fast — but it arrived.
