Ricardo Santiago, a 59-year-old Hartford man, has admitted to fraudulently collecting Social Security, unemployment, and Food Stamp benefits.
According to court documents, Santiago held jobs with more than 20 employers and earned income totaling more than $580,000 between 2002 and 2024.
Santiago concealed his income from federal and state government agencies by providing false identification to his employers, including a Social Security number and card belonging to another individual.
Between 2002 and 2024, Santiago applied for and collected a total of $371,686 in benefits to which he was not entitled.
Ricardo Santiago pleaded guilty to one count of wire fraud, an offense that carries a maximum term of imprisonment of 20 years.
Santiago was arrested on May 7, 2024, and is currently released on a $25,000 bond pending sentencing.
The case is being prosecuted by Assistant U.S. Attorney Nathan J. Guevremont.
Ricardo Santiago’s sentencing is scheduled for May 22, 2024.
