Richmond Man Sold Meth, Kept Shotguns for Protection
Lexington, KY – A Richmond man pleaded guilty to federal drug trafficking and firearms offenses.
Dwayne Thomas Farmer, 36, of Richmond, pleaded guilty to trafficking in methamphetamine, possession of a firearm by a convicted felon, and possession of a firearm in furtherance of drug trafficking.
On June 27, 2017, law enforcement officers executed a search warrant at Farmer’s Richmond apartment and seized over 220 grams of methamphetamine, worth more than $20,000, according to authorities.
The meth was found in close proximity to two shotguns, which Farmer admitted he had traded for the drugs. He kept the shotguns in his bedroom for protection and intended to sell the meth.
Farmer was previously convicted of felony drug trafficking in Knox County, Tennessee, and Whitley County, Kentucky.
The investigation was conducted by the ATF, DEA, Richmond Police Department, and the Madison County AHIDTA Task Force.
Farmer is scheduled to appear for sentencing on December 19, 2018, and faces up to life in prison. The case is part of Project Safe Neighborhoods, a program to reduce violent crime and make neighborhoods safer.
