Rigonaldo Diaz-Chixna, Identity Theft, California 2023

Rigonaldo Diaz-Chixna, a 30-year-old Mexican man, has been sentenced to 15 months imprisonment for illegal reentry into the United States. The sentence, handed down by U.S. District Judge Dana L. Christensen, will be followed by 3 years of supervised release.

Diaz-Chixna pleaded guilty to the charges in May 2025, after being arrested in Bozeman on December 10, 2024, for obstructing a peace officer and for two outstanding warrants. Law enforcement officers conducted fingerprint analysis, which confirmed that Diaz-Chixna had been removed from the United States on or about July 19, 2022, following his felony conviction for illegal reentry on June 3, 2022, in the District of Montana.

The government alleged that Diaz-Chixna never applied for or obtained permission from the United States Attorney General or the Secretary of the Department of Homeland Security to reenter the United States. This removal and subsequent reentry without permission led to the charges of illegal reentry, which Diaz-Chixna pleaded guilty to.

Assistant U.S. Attorney Shannon Clarke prosecuted the case, which was investigated by the Department of Homeland Security and the Bozeman Police Department. The case is part of Operation Take Back America, a nationwide initiative that aims to repel the invasion of illegal immigration, achieve the total elimination of cartels and transnational criminal organizations (TCOs), and protect communities from violent crime.

Operation Take Back America streamlines efforts and resources from the Department’s Organized Crime Drug Enforcement Task Forces (OCDETFs) and Project Safe Neighborhood (PSN). The initiative is a key component of the Department of Justice’s efforts to combat organized crime and protect American communities.

The sentencing of Rigonaldo Diaz-Chixna serves as a reminder of the consequences of illegal reentry into the United States. U.S. Attorney Kurt Alme stated that the sentence reflects the seriousness of the offense and the need to protect American communities from those who would seek to violate the law.

The case of Rigonaldo Diaz-Chixna is a significant one, as it highlights the ongoing efforts of law enforcement agencies to combat illegal immigration and organized crime. As part of Operation Take Back America, the Department of Justice will continue to work tirelessly to protect American communities and uphold the rule of law.
