Riverdale Man Indicted on Firearms Charges
A federal grand jury has returned a four-count indictment against Rodger Riquez Rodriguez, 33, of Riverdale, charging him with being a prohibited person in possession of firearms, according to U.S. Attorney McGregor W. Scott.
The indictment alleges that on May 22, 2018, Rodriguez was found in possession of a silver Kel-Tec P-3AT handgun, and on July 24, 2018, he was found in possession of a weapon made from a rifle, Izhmash, Model SVD.
Rodriguez was prohibited from possessing firearms based on a prior felony conviction and prior misdemeanor convictions for domestic violence, putting him at the center of a high-stakes investigation.
The case is the result of a collaborative effort between the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives, the Clovis Police Department, the Fresno County Sheriff’s Office, the United States Marshals Service, and the Fresno County District Attorney’s Office.
Assistant U.S. Attorney Mark J. McKeon is leading the prosecution, and if convicted, Rodriguez faces a maximum statutory penalty of 10 years in prison and a $250,000 fine on each count.
The charges are only allegations, and Rodriguez is presumed innocent until and unless proven guilty beyond a reasonable doubt.
The case is part of Project Safe Neighborhoods (PSN), a program aimed at reducing violent crime and making neighborhoods safer for everyone.
