Charleston, SC – A Ladson man has been hit with a serious charge after a federal grand jury handed down an indictment.
Robert Bryan Mansfield, 60, of Ladson, South Carolina, was charged in a one-count indictment with conspiracy to possess with intent to distribute and to distribute fentanyl, a violation of Title 21, United States Code, Section 841(a)(1), according to a statement from the office of United States Attorney Beth Drake.
ICE-Homeland Security Investigations, the Drug Enforcement Administration, United States Postal Inspection Service, Dorchester County Sheriff’s Office, and Charleston County Sheriff’s Office all contributed to the case, with Assistant United States Attorney Nick Bianchi leading the prosecution in the Charleston office.
The maximum penalty Mansfield could face is a fine of $10,000,000.00 and/or imprisonment for life, making this a serious charge with severe consequences.
United States Attorney Beth Drake emphasized that all charges in this indictment are merely accusations, and that Mansfield, like all defendants, is presumed innocent until and unless proven guilty.
The indictment against Mansfield highlights the ongoing efforts by law enforcement to combat fentanyl trafficking in the region.
