Robert Chauncey, Possession with Intent to Distribute a Controlled Substance, South Dakota 2016

A 66-year-old Mission, South Dakota man has been sentenced to 25 months in custody for his role in a narcotics trafficking operation.

Robert Chauncey was found guilty of Possession with Intent to Distribute a Controlled Substance, specifically methamphetamine, following a traffic stop in 2014.

According to investigators, Chauncey was stopped by the Rosebud Sioux Tribe Law Enforcement Services on December 2, 2014, and methamphetamine, marijuana, and other illicit items were discovered in his possession.

Chauncey admitted to intending to distribute the 11.89 grams of methamphetamine within the State of South Dakota.

The case was investigated by the Rosebud Sioux Tribe Law Enforcement Services and prosecuted by Assistant U.S. Attorney SaraBeth Donovan.

On December 6, 2016, U.S. District Judge Roberto A. Lange sentenced Chauncey to 25 months in custody, followed by 6 years of supervised release, a $1,000 fine, forfeiture of $1,701.63, and a special assessment of $100 to the Federal Crime Victims Fund.

Chauncey was immediately turned over to the custody of the U.S. Marshals Service.

The case serves as a reminder of the ongoing efforts to combat narcotics trafficking in South Dakota and the consequences for those who engage in such activities.
