Raleigh Man Sentenced to 22 Years in Prison for Robbing AT&T Store
Raleigh, N.C. – Robert Kevin Boddie, a 46-year-old man from Raleigh, was sentenced to 264 months in prison for robbing an AT&T store and illegally possessing a firearm.
On April 15, 2019, the Raleigh Police Department was dispatched to an armed robbery at the AT&T store located at 4551 New Bern Avenue in Raleigh. According to the indictment, Boddie entered the store and inquired about an iPhone before brandishing a firearm and forcing an employee to go to the rear storage room at gunpoint.
The employee placed eight iPhones, an Alcatel Tetra, and a GPS tracker into a plastic bag and gave it to Boddie, who then fled the store. Raleigh Police Department officers reviewed surveillance video and were able to clearly see Boddie as the suspect.
After a search of the area, officers found a vehicle with the GPS tracker still active. The stolen cell phones and GPS unit were recovered from the vehicle, along with a loaded firearm with 12 rounds of ammunition wrapped in a shirt. Boddie was then arrested and charged with Hobbs Act Robbery, Possession of a Firearm by a Convicted Felon, and Brandishing a Firearm in Furtherance of a Crime of Violence.
Boddie pleaded guilty to the indictment on February 11, 2020, and was sentenced to 264 months in prison, which is equivalent to 22 years. The sentence was announced by Chief U.S. District Judge Terrence W. Boyle.
The case was investigated by the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms & Explosives and the Raleigh Police Department, with Assistant U.S. Attorney Daniel W. Smith prosecuting the case.
