Each defendant faces a sentence of at least 10 years and up to life in prison, a fine of up to $10 million, and between 5 years and a lifetime of supervised release on this count. Losse, Carter, Thede, and Cabrera-Santiago also face charges of possession of a firearm in furtherance of a drug trafficking crime, which carries a mandatory minimum consecutive sentence of 5 years and up to life in prison, a fine of up to $250,000, and up to 5 years of supervised release.
The indictment alleges that the defendants conspired to obtain and distribute methamphetamine in the Fox Valley area of Northeastern Wisconsin. It is being prosecuted by Assistant United States Attorney Andrew J. Maier.
The case was investigated by the Lake Winnebago Area Metropolitan Enforcement Group – Drug Unit, United States Drug Enforcement Administration, Federal Bureau of Investigation, with assistance from the Winnebago County District Attorney’s Office, Outagamie County District Attorney’s Office, and Calumet County District Attorney’s Office.
An indictment is only a charge and not evidence of guilt. The defendants are presumed innocent and are entitled to a fair trial at which the government must prove guilt beyond a reasonable doubt.
