Robert Martin Pleads Guilty to Bank Robbery in Kansas
Kansas City, Kan. – On March 19, 2014, a brazen bank robbery shook the small town of Pomona, Kansas. Robert Martin, 39, of Quenemo, Kansas, was arrested and charged with one count of bank robbery.
According to court documents, Martin admitted to driving to the Goppert State Service Bank at 118 East Franklin Street in Pomona, Kansas, with co-defendant Caleb Jeffcoat. Martin provided Jeffcoat with a mask and a BB gun that had been altered to resemble a real firearm. Jeffcoat then entered the bank and robbed a teller.
Investigators used video surveillance from a local Dollar General store and a gas station in Pomona to identify the suspect. The footage led authorities to Martin and Jeffcoat, who were subsequently arrested and charged.
Caleb Jeffcoat, 26, of Quenemo, Kansas, is awaiting sentencing, while Christel Collins, 37, of Quenemo, Kansas, is awaiting trial. Martin faces a maximum penalty of 20 years in federal prison and a fine up to $250,000.
The case was a collaborative effort between the Franklin County Sheriff’s Office, the Ottawa Police Department, the Kansas Bureau of Investigation, the FBI, the Franklin County Attorney’s Office, and Assistant U.S. Attorney Scott Rask. U.S. Attorney Barr Grissom commended the teams involved in the investigation and prosecution of the case.
In all cases, defendants are presumed innocent until and unless proven guilty. The indictments merely contain allegations of criminal conduct.
Martin’s sentencing will be set for a later date. The community is breathing a sigh of relief as justice is served for the victims of the 2014 bank robbery.
