U.S. Attorney Richard S. Hartunian announced on Thursday, the indictment of Robert McLaughlin, age 57, of Mechanicville, New York, for his alleged involvement in the production of child pornography.
According to the indictment, between 2012 and 2014, McLaughlin engaged in sexually explicit conduct with two young girls and also produced visual depictions of such conduct.
McLaughlin faces up to 30 years of imprisonment and a maximum fine of $250,000 on each count.
He had his initial appearance and arraignment on the charges in Albany today before the Honorable Christian F. Hummel, United States Magistrate Judge. McLaughlin was detained pending resolution of the charges.
McLaughlin’s case is being investigated by the New York State Police and the Federal Bureau of Investigation. The United States Attorney’s Office is prosecuting the case, led by Assistant United States Attorney Lisa M. Fletcher and Special Assistant United States Attorney Amanda W. Cox.
This case is part of Project Safe Childhood, a nationwide initiative launched in May 2006 by the Department of Justice to combat the growing epidemic of child sexual exploitation and abuse.
