Robert Restuch, Mailing Child Pornography, Arizona 2009

A 69-year-old man from Bullhead City, Arizona has been found guilty of mailing child pornography, shocking the community and sparking calls for tougher laws on internet crime.

Robert Restuch, a resident of Bullhead City, pleaded guilty to one count of mailing child pornography, a crime that carries severe penalties, including up to 20 years in prison and a fine of up to $250,000.

According to court documents, Restuch admitted to mailing a package containing over 600 images of child pornography, including images depicting children under the age of 12, from a U.S. Post Office in Bullhead City.

The case was brought as part of Project Safe Childhood, a nationwide initiative launched in May 2006 to combat the growing epidemic of child sexual exploitation and abuse.

Restuch’s sentencing has been set for October 19, 2009. At sentencing, he will face a mandatory minimum sentence of five years in prison, as well as the possibility of lifetime supervised release.

The U.S. Postal Inspection Service conducted the investigation into Restuch’s activities, and the case was prosecuted by Trial Attorney James Silver of the Child Exploitation and Obscenity Section, with assistance from Assistant U.S. Attorneys Vincent Q. Kirby, Sharon K. Sexton, and Heather Nelson of the District of Arizona.

Restuch’s guilty plea is a significant blow to those who exploit children via the internet, and a testament to the hard work and dedication of law enforcement agencies and prosecutors who work tirelessly to bring these perpetrators to justice.
