A Bowling Green man has been sentenced to 11 years in federal prison for possessing methamphetamine with the intent to distribute and for illegally possessing a firearm.
Robert Thomason, 41, was sentenced yesterday in the United States District Court for the Western District of Kentucky.
The charges against Thomason include possessing 50 grams or more of methamphetamine with the intent to distribute and possession of a firearm by a convicted felon. There is no parole in the federal system.
According to court documents, on December 8, 2020, Thomason possessed 54.13 grams of methamphetamine with the intent to distribute. He also possessed a handgun after having been previously convicted of the felony offenses of first-degree trafficking in a controlled substance and bail jumping.
U.S. Attorney Michael A. Bennett praised the work of the ATF, the Bowling Green/Warren County Drug Task Force, and KSP in the investigation and prosecution of Thomason.
‘Outstanding work by ATF, the Bowling Green/Warren County Drug Task Force, and KSP,’ said Bennett. ‘Drug distribution and the illegal possession of firearms remain top law enforcement priorities in the Western District as we continue the fight against violent crime.’
This case is part of Project Safe Neighborhoods (PSN), a program aimed at reducing violent crime. The PSN program focuses enforcement efforts on the most violent offenders and partners with locally based prevention and reentry programs for lasting reductions in crime.
