Kenya Brown, Cocaine Trafficking, New York 2023

ROCHESTER, N.Y. – The grimy streets of Rochester witnessed a chilling end to the reign of drug terror as Kenya Brown, 41, was sentenced to 20 years and 8 months in federal prison for his role in a massive cocaine trafficking operation.

The sentence handed down by U.S. District Judge Elizabeth A. Wolford also includes 5 years of supervised release and a $5,000 fine, along with the forfeiture of $303,355 in drug proceeds and an arsenal of firearms and ammunition.

According to Assistant U.S. Attorney Robert A. Marangola, Brown and his brother, Shawnta Brown, were the backbone of a sophisticated drug ring that operated in Rochester from 2006 until their arrest in 2012. They obtained large quantities of cocaine, produced crack cocaine, and distributed it through various channels, including drug houses where they supervised lower-level members.

Their network was dismantled during a series of raids that yielded more than 5 kilograms of cocaine, several firearms, and substantial amounts of cash and precious metals.

Eric Contreras, the California-based supplier who supplied kilogram quantities to the Brown brothers, received an 188-month sentence for his role in the conspiracy. Shawnta Brown was recently sentenced to 12 years in prison for his involvement.

The investigation was a collaborative effort led by the Rochester Police Department and various federal agencies, including the DEA, ATF, and the U.S. Marshal Service.
