Rochester Man Pleads Guilty to Bank Robbery

A Rochester man has pleaded guilty to robbing the same bank three times, with the most recent incident occurring just a week apart from the previous two.

Edward Brown, 51, of Rochester, pleaded guilty to bank robbery before U.S. District Judge Charles J. Siragusa, according to U.S. Attorney William J. Hochul, Jr.

The first incident occurred on June 25, 2014, when Brown entered the Citizens Bank at 40 Franklin Street in Rochester and told the teller, "I got a gun in my waist, I don’t want anybody to get hurt. Give me money in small bills." The teller handed over a specific amount of cash.

Less than a month later, on July 31, 2014, Brown returned to the same bank and demanded money, simply stating "Give me money in small bills," which the teller again complied with.

The third and final incident occurred on August 4, 2014, when Brown entered the bank once more, this time saying "I have a gun and I’ll use it," but still receiving a specific amount of cash from the teller.

The guilty plea comes after an investigation by the Rochester Police Department’s Major Crimes and Tactical Units, under the direction of Chief Michael Ciminelli, the Federal Bureau of Investigation, and the NYS Department of Corrections and Community Service under the direction of Acting Commissioner Anthony J. Annucci.

Brown faces a maximum sentence of 20 years in prison and a $250,000 fine. Sentencing is scheduled for December 19, 2013, at 10:30 a.m. before Judge Siragusa. Assistant U.S. Attorney Melissa M. Marangola is handling the case.
