Two Rochester Men Charged in Sex Trafficking of Minor
ROCHESTER, N.Y.—Two Rochester men have been charged with sex trafficking a minor, a crime that carries a mandatory life sentence and a $250,000 fine. Daniel Tanck, 31, and Robert Palermo, 29, are accused of placing an ad on Backpage.com for a 14-year-old victim to engage in prostitution activities.
According to court documents, Tanck and Palermo took pictures of the victim at their residence on Emerson Street in Rochester and posted the advertisement using Tanck’s computer. The victim alleged that both Tanck and Palermo knew that she was 14 years of age.
Assistant U.S. Attorney Tiffany H. Lee is handling the case, which is the culmination of an investigation by the Federal Bureau of Investigation’s Cyber Crimes Task Force. The task force includes the Monroe County Sheriff’s Office, the Rochester Police Department, and the Federal Bureau of Investigation.
The task force, under the direction of Sheriff Patrick O’Flynn, Chief James Sheppard, and Acting Special Agent in Charge Richard M. Frankel, worked with the Monroe County District Attorney’s Office to bring the charges against Tanck and Palermo.
The indictment charges Tanck and Palermo with conspiracy to commit sex trafficking of a minor and sex trafficking of a minor. The penalties for these crimes include a mandatory penalty of life in prison and a fine of $250,000 for conspiracy, and a mandatory minimum penalty of 10 years in prison and a maximum penalty of life and a $250,000 fine for sex trafficking.
Tanck and Palermo are presumed innocent until proven guilty. The fact that they have been charged with a crime is merely an accusation.
The investigation into Tanck and Palermo’s alleged crimes is ongoing, and the charges against them are a reminder of the serious consequences of sex trafficking and the importance of holding those responsible accountable for their actions.
