ROCHESTER, NY – Jonathan Woody, 31, of Rochester, has confessed to a sickening act of predation, pleading guilty today to coercion and enticement of a minor. The admission before U.S. District Judge Charles J. Siragusa confirms a case that shocked local law enforcement and now carries a potential life sentence for Woody.
According to Assistant U.S. Attorney Kyle P. Rossi, the depravity began in January 2024. Woody initiated sexually explicit communications with a 13-year-old child he’d connected with on social media. The digital grooming quickly escalated to real-world danger. On January 2, Woody used his money to arrange transportation for the child to a hotel in Greece, NY, where he’d already booked a room. This wasn’t a chance encounter; it was a calculated trap.
Inside that hotel room, Woody allegedly provided the child with alcohol and marijuana before engaging in sexual acts. The details are gruesome and paint a clear picture of calculated exploitation. Thankfully, the child’s family grew concerned when the 13-year-old didn’t return home. A frantic 911 call initiated a missing person investigation that quickly uncovered Woody’s involvement.
The child was safely returned home, and the subsequent investigation, led by the Monroe County Sheriff’s Office under Sheriff Todd Baxter, the Greece Police Department led by Chief Michael Wood, and the FBI’s Child Exploitation Task Force, under Acting Special Agent-in-Charge Mark Grimm, swiftly identified and arrested Woody. The collaborative effort highlights the dedication to protecting vulnerable children in the Rochester area.
Woody now faces a minimum of 10 years in prison, with the terrifying possibility of a life sentence, and a $250,000 fine.
