Rochester Woman Sentenced in Sex Trafficking Case
A 28-year-old Rochester woman has been sentenced to 70 months in prison for her role in a sex trafficking case. Jennifer Miller, 28, was convicted of conspiracy to commit sex trafficking of a minor and was sentenced by U.S. District Judge Elizabeth A. Wolford.
According to Assistant U.S. Attorney Tiffany H. Lee, Miller and another co-conspirator transported a minor to New Jersey and Pennsylvania in April 2013 for the purpose of engaging in commercial sex acts. The defendant used Backpage.com to post ads for the minor, and Miller also transported the minor to Pennsylvania another time, knowing that the minor would be engaging in commercial sex acts.
The case is the result of an investigation by the Federal Bureau of Investigation’s Child Exploitation Task Force, which includes the Rochester Police Department, the Monroe County Sheriff’s Office, and the Federal Bureau of Investigation. Miller was arrested in April 2014 along with Jodia Campbell and Laree Greggs, who both have charges pending against them.
‘‘The sentencing of Jennifer Miller is a significant milestone in our efforts to combat sex trafficking in the Rochester area,’’ said U.S. Attorney William J. Hochul, Jr. ‘‘We will continue to work tirelessly to identify and prosecute those who exploit and harm our most vulnerable citizens.’’
The investigation into the sex trafficking ring is ongoing, and charges are pending against defendants Campbell and Greggs. The fact that a defendant has been charged with a crime is merely an accusation, and the defendant is presumed innocent until proven guilty.
The sentencing of Miller brings to a close one chapter in this ongoing investigation, and we will continue to follow the developments as they unfold.
Miller’s sentencing is a reminder of the devastating impact of sex trafficking on its victims and the importance of holding those responsible accountable. We will continue to shine a light on these crimes and work towards a safer and more just community for all.
