A federal investigation has led to the indictment of four Rockford men for allegedly trafficking cocaine in the Rockford area. Amjed Alsadun, 38, Ahmed Alsadun, 38, Namario L. Haley, 38, and Will A. Evans, 32, were charged with drug conspiracy and distribution after an investigation involving covert surveillance, undercover narcotics purchases, and wiretapped communications. The probe was led by the FBI and the Winnebago County Sheriff’s Office.
The indictment was unsealed on Tuesday in federal court in Rockford, and three of the defendants were arrested and pleaded not guilty. Amjed Alsadun, Ahmed Alsadun, and Haley were taken into custody, while Evans is currently being held in state custody on an unrelated charge. Detention hearings for the defendants are set for early April.
The charges are the result of a joint effort by the FBI, the Winnebago County Sheriff’s Office, and the US Attorney’s Office for the Northern District of Illinois. The investigation utilized a range of tactics to gather evidence, including surveillance and undercover operations.
The public is reminded that an indictment is not a finding of guilt, and the defendants are presumed innocent until proven otherwise. The government will have to prove the charges beyond a reasonable doubt in order to secure a conviction.
