Man Accused of Unlawful Possession of Firearms
CLARKSBURG, WEST VIRGINIA – A local man has been indicted on a federal firearm charge, announced United States Attorney William J. Powell.
Rocmond Lewis, Sr., age 40, of Fairmont, West Virginia, was indicted by a federal grand jury on one count of ‘Unlawful Possession of a Firearm.’
Lewis is accused of possessing three firearms, including a .45 caliber pistol, a 9mm pistol, and a .380 caliber pistol. The crime is alleged to have occurred in March 2017 in Marion County.
A conviction on the charge carries a sentence of up to 10 years in prison. Lewis’s felony conviction in the Circuit Court of Marion County, West Virginia, is also relevant to this case.
Assistant U.S. Attorney Sarah E. Wagner is prosecuting the case on behalf of the government. The Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives is investigating.
An indictment is merely an accusation. A defendant is presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty.
Lewis is scheduled to appear in federal court on March 2017 for a status hearing. The exact date of the hearing is not yet released.
