Rodney Russel, 40, Sentenced for Stealing Over $213,000 from New Orleans Company
NEW ORLEANS, LOUISIANA – In a stunning case of financial deceit, Rodney Russel, a 40-year-old man from Belle Rose, Louisiana, was sentenced to 70 months in prison for his role in stealing over $213,000 from a New Orleans company.
According to the U.S. Attorney’s Office, Russel’s crimes began in August 2017 when he started working for the company through a work re-entry program for individuals with criminal records. Despite not having access to the company’s JPMorgan Chase Bank account, Russel used the bank’s web portal and mobile banking app to transfer funds to his own accounts, including MC & Associates Management, Inc.
Between April and June 2018, Russel managed to siphon off $213,372.05 from the company’s account, leaving a trail of financial devastation in his wake.
U.S. District Judge Greg G. Guidry handed down the sentence, which included 70 months of imprisonment, followed by five years of supervised release, and a $100 mandatory special assessment fee. Russel was also ordered to pay restitution in the amount of $213,372.05 to the company.
The U.S. Attorney’s Office would like to acknowledge the assistance of the Federal Bureau of Investigation with this matter. Assistant U.S. Attorney Brian M. Klebba, Chief of the Financial Crimes Unit, handled the prosecution of this case.
As the nation grapples with the consequences of financial crimes, the sentencing of Rodney Russel serves as a stark reminder of the devastating impact such actions can have on individuals and businesses alike.
The case against Russel serves as a warning to those who would seek to exploit the financial systems for personal gain. As we move forward, it is crucial that we continue to prioritize the protection of our financial institutions and the individuals who rely on them.
