SAN FRANCISCO – Rodney Williams, 55, is headed to federal prison for a decade after being sentenced for a disturbing trifecta of crimes: possession of child sexual abuse material, drug trafficking, and illegal firearm possession. Senior U.S. District Judge Susan Illston handed down the 120-month sentence today, bringing a grim end to a case that exposed a dark underbelly of depravity and dangerous weaponry.
Williams was initially charged on October 7, 2024, and later pleaded guilty on May 16, 2025, to two counts of possessing child pornography, possession with intent to distribute over 500 grams of methamphetamine and cocaine, and being a convicted felon in possession of firearms and ammunition. The case stemmed from a July 24, 2024, raid on Williams’s San Francisco home and vehicle in the Potrero Hill neighborhood.
Investigators seized Williams’s iPhone, revealing a horrifying cache of 555 images and 147 videos depicting child sexual abuse. Disturbingly, at least one of those files depicted a minor under the age of 12. A separate digital storage account yielded another nine files of similar depravity, with at least one featuring a child under 12. This wasn’t just about images; it was about exploitation and the irreversible harm inflicted on vulnerable victims.
But the depravity didn’t stop there. The search also uncovered a significant drug operation. Williams possessed nearly 3.8 kilograms of methamphetamine and over 1 kilogram of cocaine with the clear intent to distribute. He also had approximately 100 grams of heroin and 17 grams of fentanyl stashed away. Alongside the drugs, authorities found an arsenal of weapons: 11 firearms, including two AK-style rifles, two AR-style rifles, and a collection of handguns and rifles. Over 116 pounds of ammunition, body armor, and various firearm accessories completed the picture of a man prepared for violence.
The fact that Williams was already a convicted felon – with prior convictions including assault with a firearm on a person and sending harmful material to induce a minor – made the situation even more dangerous. U.S. Attorney Craig H. Missakian, Homeland Security Investigations (HSI) Acting Special Agent in Charge Jeffrey Brannigan, and Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives (ATF) Acting Special Agent in Charge Robert Topper jointly announced the sentencing, highlighting the collaborative effort to remove a serious threat from the streets.
Judge Illston didn’t just impose the 10-year prison sentence; she also ordered a five-year period of supervised release and $89,000 in restitution to the victims of the child sexual abuse material. Williams was immediately remanded into custody to begin serving his sentence. Special Assistant U.S. Attorney Eli J. Cohen led the prosecution, a direct result of the tireless investigation by HSI, ATF, and the San Francisco Police Department. This case serves as a stark reminder of the interconnectedness of these crimes and the dedication required to bring perpetrators like Rodney Williams to justice.
