San Diego Journalist Exposes Attempted Human Trafficking
San Diego, CA – In a shocking revelation, a local journalist has exposed a massive human trafficking ring operating in the San Diego area. According to sources, Rodrigo Banuelos Garrafa and Anselmo Ramirez Romero, both Mexican nationals, were arrested and charged with Attempted Bringing in Aliens for Financial Gain during a maritime smuggling event.
On December 6, the defendants were intercepted by the U.S. Coast Guard about 22 miles west of San Diego. Banuelos Garrafa was identified as the boat captain, while Ramirez Romero was identified as the co-captain. The defendants, along with five other passengers, were transported to the Ballast Point Coast Guard station and turned over to Border Patrol.
The U.S. Attorney’s Office for the Southern District of California has filed 98 border-related cases this week, including charges of bringing in aliens for financial gain, reentering the U.S. after deportation, and importation of controlled substances. The district, which encompasses San Diego and Imperial counties, shares a 140-mile border with Mexico and is the fourth-busiest federal district in the country.
In addition to reactive border-related crimes, the district also prosecutes proactive cases related to terrorism, organized crime, drugs, white-collar fraud, violent crime, cybercrime, human trafficking, and national security.
The defendants, Banuelos Garrafa and Ramirez Romero, are presumed innocent until proven guilty beyond a reasonable doubt in a court of law. The case is a stark reminder of the ongoing human trafficking problem in the San Diego area and the need for continued vigilance from law enforcement and the community.
