ANCHORAGE, Alaska – A Fairbanks man has been indicted for allegedly orchestrating a murder for hire plot targeting his ex-girlfriend. Roger Keeling, 54, was charged in a superseding indictment for murder for hire, in addition to a previous indictment for stalking.
According to court documents, Keeling strangled his girlfriend in October 2020. He pleaded guilty to a misdemeanor assault charge in state court and was released on ankle monitoring. However, he continued to harass and contact the victim, leaving her in fear for her life. Keeling was arrested for stalking and subsequently devised a murder for hire plot targeting her in January 2021.
The Federal Bureau of Investigation and the Alaska State Troopers conducted the investigation, which led to the indictment. This case is being prosecuted by Assistant U.S. Attorney Dan Doty.
Keeling, if convicted, could face up to 10 years in prison for attempting to arrange a murder for hire. His sentence will be determined by the Federal Sentencing Guidelines, based on the seriousness of the offense and his prior criminal history.
The case was brought as part of Project Safe Neighborhoods, a program aimed at reducing violent crime. The program focuses on identifying the most pressing violent crime problems and developing comprehensive solutions to address them.
The charges against Keeling are merely allegations, and he is presumed innocent until proven guilty beyond a reasonable doubt in a court of law.
Keeling’s full name is Roger Keeling, and the exact criminal charges against him include murder for hire and stalking. The city and state involved are Fairbanks, Alaska. The crime date was October 2020 for the initial assault charge and January 2021 for the murder for hire plot. The sentence or outcome is pending, and there are no dollar amounts mentioned in the case.
