ALBANY, NEW YORK – Ioan Rostas, a/k/a Ioan Angel, a 29-year-old Romanian citizen, has been sentenced to time served (86 days in jail) for illegally re-entering the United States.
According to officials, Ioan Rostas was removed from the United States to Romania on September 28, 2017, and was subsequently arrested by Border Patrol Agents near Chateaugay, New York on March 17, 2018.
Rostas was part of a group of four people who had entered the United States without inspection from Canada shortly before they were encountered by Border Patrol Agents in the woods near Chateaugay.
Ioan Rostas pleaded guilty to the charges and was sentenced by United States Attorney Grant C. Jaquith and Robert N. Garcia, Acting Chief Patrol Agent, United States Border Patrol, Swanton Sector.
Following his sentencing, Rostas was remanded to the custody of the Department of Homeland Security, for removal proceedings.
This case was investigated by the Border Patrol and prosecuted by Assistant U.S. Attorney Edward P. Grogan.
