Ioan Rostas, Reentry into US after Deportation, Connecticut 2026

⏱ 3 min read

A Romanian national is facing federal charges for illegally reentering the US after being deported, according to court documents. Ioan Rostas, 36, had been living in New York while in immigration removal proceedings, but skipped out on the Alternative to Detention program in March 2023. He was later placed in removal proceedings and ordered to leave the country in absentia.

But Rostas wasn’t done causing trouble. In October 2023, law enforcement in West Virginia arrested him for obstructing an officer, and he was later turned over to Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) in Pennsylvania. He was removed from the country on November 17, 2023.

But Rostas somehow managed to slink back into the US. Police in Manchester, Connecticut, encountered him on April 26, 2026, sitting in a parked vehicle that had been linked to a group of retail thieves along the east coast. Rostas was driving a vehicle that had been sought by Georgia authorities, and he had a stash of new clothing and perfume in the vehicle.

When questioned by police, Rostas produced a forged international license bearing someone else’s name, and a search of the vehicle turned up a second fake license, as well as a bunch of swiped goods. He was arrested and charged with state offenses, but later turned over to ICE.
