Florida Man Pleads Guilty to Possession of Child Pornography

An Orange Park man has pleaded guilty to possessing child pornography, a crime that carries a maximum sentence of 10 years in federal prison, according to the U.S. Attorney’s Office for the Middle District of Florida.

Ronald Boike, 50, entered his plea in federal court in Jacksonville to a charge of possession of child pornography, a felony offense that is punishable by up to 10 years in prison. A sentencing date has not yet been set.

According to the plea agreement, Boike was involved in an online relationship with a minor child for at least two years. He used a cell phone chat application to communicate with the minor and sent sexually explicit pictures of himself to the minor in order to encourage and coax her to produce and send him pornographic pictures or videos of herself.

During ongoing conversations with the minor, Boike saved pornographic pictures and videos of the minor on his family’s computer. Boike’s wife learned of his relationship with the minor after finding the videos on the family’s computer. Boike’s wife subsequently filed a complaint with the Federal Bureau of Investigation.

The case was investigated by the Federal Bureau of Investigation and is being prosecuted by Assistant United States Attorney Malisa Chokshi.

This case was brought as part of Project Safe Childhood, a nationwide initiative launched in May 2006 by the U.S. Attorney’s Offices and the Criminal Division’s Child Exploitation and Obscenity Section to combat the growing epidemic of child sexual exploitation and abuse.

Project Safe Childhood marshals federal, state, and local resources to better locate, apprehend, and prosecute individuals who exploit children via the Internet, as well as to identify and rescue victims. For more information about Project Safe Childhood, please visit www.projectsafechildhood.gov.
