Rony Rivera-Gonzales, a 23-year-old Honduran national residing in Hammond, Louisiana, was sentenced for using a fake social security number to obtain a Louisiana ID card.
According to court documents, on or about August 20, 2014, Rivera-Gonzales submitted a social security number that did not belong to him to a Louisiana Department of Motor Vehicles Office in order to obtain a Louisiana Identification Card.
Based on that false submission, an employee with the Department of Motor Vehicles issued Rivera-Gonzales a Louisiana Identification Card.
Rivera-Gonzales pleaded guilty to one count of illegal use of a social security number. U.S. District Judge Marry Lemmon sentenced him to time served followed by one year of supervised release, and a $100 special assessment.
Rivera-Gonzales will be surrendered to the custody of the U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement for removal proceedings.
U.S. Attorney Kenneth A. Polite praised the work of the Homeland Security Investigations and the Louisiana State Police in investigating this matter. Assistant United States Attorney Spiro G. Latsis was in charge of the prosecution.
