In a shocking revelation, the Works Progress Administration (WPA) has revealed that its massive reduction plan is lagging far behind schedule. Administrator Harry Hopkins had promised to slash the WPA rolls by 600,000 workers between midwinter and June 1, 1937. But as of March 20, only 24,426 workers had dropped off the rolls, leaving a staggering 2,134,000 WPA workers still employed in the continental United States.
