GREENSBORO, N.C. – The streets of Rowan County have been hit with a tough blow as two high-profile meth dealers were handed down lengthy federal prison sentences. Rodolfo VARGAS-BENITEZ, 37, of Mocksville, and Alfredo Arias BELLO, 53, from Yadkinville, were both sentenced to substantial terms for their roles in the distribution of dangerous drugs.
BELLO, also known as Alfredo Arias Vello, received a 60-month term, while VARGAS-BENITEZ, alias Luciano Vargas Benitez, was sentenced to 72 months. Both men pleaded guilty to distributing at least 50 grams of methamphetamine in Rowan County.
The drug bust came about when a confidential informant approached law enforcement with information that he could buy significant quantities of meth from BELLO. The CI arranged purchases totaling approximately $3,200 worth of the illegal substance, including transactions on February 1, April 18, and June 27, 2018.
During one transaction in June 2018, law enforcement observed a second Hispanic male meet with BELLO. This man was later identified as VARGAS-BENITEZ. Both were arrested following the sale of around four ounces of methamphetamine.
A search of BELLO’s vehicle revealed drug proceeds, while VARGAS-BENITEZ’s belongings held additional meth and drug money. The investigation was a collaborative effort by local and state law enforcement agencies.
This case underscores the relentless efforts of federal authorities to crack down on organized drug trafficking operations. Assistant United States Attorney Terry M. Meinecke handled the prosecution, ensuring that justice was served for the communities affected by these drug dealers.
