Roylee Richardson, Jr., Felon in Possession of a Firearm, Iowa 2022

A Davenport man has been found guilty of being a felon in possession of a firearm and witness tampering.

Roylee Richardson, Jr., age 32, was convicted on August 31, 2022, after a federal jury found him guilty of two counts of tampering with a witness and being a felon in possession of a firearm.

The charges stem from a February 7, 2021, shooting at an apartment complex on Heatherton Drive in Davenport. According to court documents, Richardson was identified as the shooter and was found attempting to scale off a second-story balcony.

Police located a loaded pistol inside the apartment, which was confirmed to have been used in the shooting. Richardson repeatedly called the victim after his arrest, violating a no contact order and attempting to tamper with the witness.

This is Richardson’s third conviction related to a shooting. In 2008, he was convicted of Willful Injury Resulting in Bodily Injury and Intimidation with a Dangerous Weapon, and in 2016, he was convicted of Intimidation with a Dangerous Weapon with Intent, Possession of a Firearm or Offensive Weapon by a Felon, Willful Injury Resulting in Bodily Injury, and Going Armed with Intent.

Richardson faces a maximum of 10 years in prison for the felon in possession of a firearm charge and up to 20 years for each of the tampering with a witness charges. He is scheduled to be sentenced on January 24, 2023.

The case was investigated by the Davenport Police Department as part of the Project Safe Neighborhoods program, which aims to reduce violent crime and gun violence in local communities.
