Gregory Scott Runion, Felon in Possession of Firearm, West Virginia 2024

CHARLESTON, W.V. — Gregory Scott Runion, a 34-year-old felon from Seth, Boone County, was today sentenced to 18 months in federal prison for selling an illegal firearm to an informant, according to United States Attorney Carol Casto.

Runion, who pleaded guilty to being a felon in possession of a firearm, had previously been prohibited from possessing firearms under federal law due to his 2009 felony conviction in Monroe, Michigan.

The unlawful transaction occurred on March 25, 2016, when Runion sold a KBI Inc., Russian SKS-45 rifle to an informant working with the U.S. 119 Drug and Violent Crime Task Force. The investigation was conducted by the task force, with Assistant United States Attorney Joshua Hanks handling the prosecution.

The sentence was imposed by United States District Judge Joseph R. Goodwin as part of Project Safe Neighborhoods, a nationwide initiative aimed at reducing gun crime in the U.S.
