Ryan Maher, 35, Pleads Guilty to Receiving and Possessing Child Pornography

A 35-year-old man from Cicero, New York, has pleaded guilty to receiving and possessing child pornography. Ryan Maher admitted to receiving the illicit materials in 2019 and 2020 using a peer-to-peer file sharing service on the internet.

According to court documents, Maher also possessed approximately 4,000 child pornography files on a thumb drive on November 17, 2020. He has a prior New York State conviction for Sexual Abuse in the Second Degree.

When Maher is sentenced on December 11, 2021, he faces at least 15 years and up to 40 years in prison for receiving child pornography and at least 10 years and up to 20 years in prison for possessing child pornography.

In addition to his prison sentence, Maher will be required to serve a term of supervised release of between five years and life after his term of incarceration and will be required to register as a sex offender.

The case was investigated by the FBI Syracuse Mid-State Child Exploitation Task Force, comprised of FBI Special Agents and Investigators of the New York State Police, Bureau of Criminal Investigation (BCI), and Computer Crimes Unit (CCU), and is being prosecuted by Assistant U.S. Attorney Michael D. Gadarian.

This case is being prosecuted as part of Project Safe Childhood, a federal initiative launched in May 2006 to combat the growing epidemic of child sexual exploitation and abuse.
