Ryan Ramos, Child Pornography, Ohio 2024

A former children’s hospital employee in Columbus, Ohio, has been sentenced to 17 years in prison for downloading, exchanging and receiving child pornography.

Ryan Ramos, 38, was sentenced in U.S. District Court on May 2024 to 210 months in prison for one count of distributing and receiving child pornography and one count of possessing child pornography.

Ramos, who worked at Nationwide Children’s Hospital from 2018 until 2020 and then at The Ohio State University Wexner Medical Center in the ICU in burn trauma until 2023, possessed a large quantity of child sexual abuse material, including more than 42,000 images and approximately 8,500 videos.

As part of this case, more than 700 victims have been identified. Ramos shared hundreds of images and videos of child sexual abuse, including abuse of young boys and infants, to a Signal app group.

An investigation by the FBI, led by their Brooklyn-Queens office, discovered Ramos’s participation in the Signal app group in 2020. Further investigation revealed that, in 2018, Ramos had paid a sexual offender in New York City and received child pornography created by the offender in exchange for his payment.

Ramos sent more than $500 via PayPal to the child exploiter. His iPhone contained more than 346,000 Signal, Telegram and other online chat messages, in most of which Ramos was distributing, seeking, receiving or discussing child pornography.

Assistant United States Attorney Emily Czerniejewski represented the United States in this case. The sentence was imposed by U.S. District Judge Sarah D. Morrison.
