Jamey Lee Becker, Attempted Luring of a Minor for Illicit Sexual Activity, Missouri 2016

Jefferson City, Mo. — A trusted church youth leader turned predator, Jamey Lee Becker, 45, of Iberia, Mo., pleaded guilty today to attempting to lure a minor for illicit sexual activity. The former mentor exploited his position and modern technology to target a child under the age of 17, federal prosecutors revealed.

Becker admitted in U.S. District Court that between February 1 and June 10, 2016, he used the internet and a cell phone to entice the underage victim into illegal sexual conduct. The crime unfolded in central Missouri, where Becker had built a reputation as a pillar of youth outreach—now shattered by his own admissions.

The charges stem from an August 24, 2016, federal indictment. Becker entered his guilty plea before U.S. Magistrate Judge Matt J. Whitworth, effectively ending any chance of contesting the allegations. No plea deal was disclosed, and the full weight of federal sentencing now looms over him.

Under federal law, Becker faces a mandatory minimum of 10 years in prison without parole. The maximum sentence stretches to life behind bars, a reflection of the severity with which federal courts treat crimes involving the sexual exploitation of children. The court will determine the final sentence after a presentence investigation by the U.S. Probation Office.

Supervisory Assistant U.S. Attorney Michael S. Oliver is leading the prosecution. The case was pieced together through a joint investigation by the Missouri State Highway Patrol and the Miller County Sheriff’s Department, whose detectives followed digital breadcrumbs to expose Becker’s hidden double life.

U.S. Attorney Tammy Dickinson emphasized that those who exploit positions of trust to harm children will be pursued without mercy. ‘Whether cloaked in religious authority or community respect, predators will be unmasked and prosecuted,’ she stated. A sentencing hearing is pending.
