Rapid City Man Sentenced for Unregistered Firearm
Ryan Reausaw, 39, of Rapid City, South Dakota, was sentenced on July 10, 2023, to five years in federal prison for Possession of an Unregistered Firearm.
The indictment was handed down by a federal grand jury in November 2021.
On August 2021, Reausaw was found to be in possession of a Remington Arms 12-gauge shotgun with a barrel length of less than 18 inches, which was not registered to him in the National Firearms Registration and Transfer Record as required by law.
Reausaw pleaded guilty to the charges on May 12, 2023. He was also ordered to pay a $100 special assessment to the Federal Crime Victims Fund.
Reausaw was remanded to the custody of the U.S. Marshals Service immediately after the sentencing.
This case is part of Project Safe Neighborhoods (PSN), a program aimed at reducing violent crime and gun violence in communities.
The case was investigated by the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives, and the Rapid City Police Department. Assistant U.S. Attorney Benjamin Patterson prosecuted the case.
