Dilesh Sharma, Online Child Enticement, California 2024

SACRAMENTO, Calif. — Grimy Times has learned that Dilesh Sharma, a man from South Sacramento, has been charged with the monstrous crime of attempting to entice a minor online for sexual purposes. A federal grand jury has returned a single-count indictment against Sharma, according to U.S. Attorney Phillip A. Talbert.

This chilling case stems from an investigation led by the Federal Bureau of Investigation and the FBI Child Exploitation Task Force. Assistant United States Attorneys Rosanne Rust and Jill M. Thomas are now prosecuting the case with unwavering determination.

Should Sharma be found guilty, he stands to face a mandatory minimum sentence of 10 years in the slammer, with a maximum penalty that could lock him away for life and leave him paying a $250,000 fine. However, any final sentence will be decided by the court after careful consideration of all factors, including the Federal Sentencing Guidelines.

These allegations are serious and unfounded until proven otherwise in court; Sharma is presumed innocent until he’s proven guilty beyond a reasonable doubt.

This case is part of Project Safe Childhood, an initiative launched by the Department of Justice to tackle child sexual exploitation and abuse. The project coordinates efforts across federal, state, and local levels to nab predators, save victims, and educate the public on internet safety.
